March 2023
Class 3 had a fantastic time today making vegetable soup as a part of our D&T unit 'Eat the Seasons', The children estimated how much the ingredients would cost and were amazed to find out that we had kept to the budget of £5 for the whole class. We had some important conversations about budgeting and how to make healthy meals go further. Well done Class 3!
February 2023
Class 3 have been working extremely hard on shading techniques in art!
February 2023
Take a look at the fantastic work that we have been doing in Geography!
1.12.22 - Lincoln Mosque Visit
Today, we visited the Lincoln Central Mosque & Cultural Centre as a part of our RE learning journey. We had a fantastic tour led by the mosque's Imam who gave the children an invaluable insight into Muslim acts of worship. It was brilliant to see the children applying their prior learning throughout the visit. What an amazing way to bring the children's classroom learning to life!
28.12.22 - Halton's Budding Comic Writer
One of our Y5 pupils has been working diligently outside of school to produce their very own comic book. Today, he shared his work with his peers on the visualiser, discussing its purpose and audience. What a fantastic community of writers we have become in Class 3!
7.11.22 - War Poetry
The children worked incredibly hard today when generating ideas for their war poems. We used a practical approach to planning: I called out a war-related word and the children then had to write a phrase using this word. All phrases were then shared. The children were able to use a variety of figurative language techniques for effect. Their vocabulary choices were also superb with most children drawing on their prior reading. Well done, Class 3!
1.11.22 Exploring Multiples
Today, we had a practical lesson in mathematics where we explored multiples and common multiples. Through using the Venn Diagrams, the children drew and explained a range of mathematical conclusions, such as how all multiples of 10 are multiples of 5. The children were also able to apply their understanding when writing their own 'I'm thinking of a multiple' word problems. What a fantastic example of Class 3 working collaboratively to achieve new learning goals!
31.10.22 - Halloween
Happy Halloween!
Class 3 definitely had the spookiest costumes in school today. They also had a brilliant time designing and carving their pumpkins. Well done, Class 3!
11.10.22 - Phases of the Moon Printing
To consolidate the children's learning on the phases of the moon, we carried out a printing activity this afternoon. The Year 6s demonstrated their brilliant cutting skills by preparing our potatoes for printing. The children then used their prior learning to decide where the different phases of the moon would be positioned based on the moon's orbit. It also uncovered several misconceptions that we addressed collectively. What a fantastic way to showcase their learning! Well done Class 3!
10.10.22 - Landscape Sketching
Today, we had a fantastic afternoon completing thumbnail sketches of our local church. The children sketched landscapes with high and low horizons. They also tried to develop scale in their pieces. Next lesson, we will be using our prior learning to create our final pieces. Hopefully, these will be displayed in St Andrew's Church soon!
September 2022
This term, we are reading 'Bronze and Sunflower' by Cao Wenxuan. So far, we have had some fantastic discussions about several important themes in the book, including friendship, loss and poverty. The children have also generated some thought-provoking ideas about characters' motives and actions. We are all excited to see what happens next in the story!
