Residential Trip 2025
Day 1
Before we departed, we were able to have a quick photo opportunity with representatives of the Spilsby Rotary Club who had kindly donated money to the school in order to pay for the bus. Such a tremendous generous act, without which the cost of the trip would be significantly higher for our families.
We departed around 9.30am and after the bus driver being a little concerned at the width of some of the roads as we neared our destination, we arrived at How Stean Gorge a little before 1.30pm. After being shown to our cabins, we took part in a a little orienteering which involved wearing hard hats to protect us in the gorge. The children did really well, finding all of the checkpoints. The evening meal was sausage, chips and peas followed by ice cream. Tom from How Stean then took us on a little walk which had some children complaining about as it got steeper but the children did really seem to be impressed by the amazing views across Nidderdale. After we returned, it was biscuits and hot chocolate before getting ready for bed. Oh, a quick check of rooms and the awarding of points for tidiness kept them on their toes right until the last minute. It has been an amazing day and we are looking forward to an activity packed day on Tuesday.
Day 2
The day started with a hearty breakfast of cereals and then either a bacon or fried egg sandwich. We then split into two groups with one group doing gorge walking and via ferrata and the other group doing via ferrata and caving. They all did so well, quite a few having to overcome some fears before doing their activities. If you are unsure what via ferrata is, a good explanation is HERE.
Throughout the day, all children demonstrated many of the school's values and they have shown excellent manners to the staff who have been looking after us so well. They've thoroughly enjoyed their activities and each group has one of the activities left to do. For dinner, the children had spaghetti bolognese and garlic bread and then after toasting marshmallows on a camp fire they had a hot chocolate and then got ready for bed. It has been a very long day!
Day 3
On the third and final day, the children did the activity that they were yet to complete which for some was the gorge walking and others the caving. We had an amazing time with, once again, many children overcoming their fears. We hope that the pics on here, the video and the pics on Facebook give you an idea of what an amazing time we had. The children were just so keen to have a go at everything and the staff at How Stean were so complimentary of their manners and their 'have a go' attitude. As a school, we are immensely proud of our children and their families should be equally as proud as we are. So, where to in 2026?
